The beach in this painting is call "Wickaninnish". It is an early morning view of the pink hued fog rolling inland over blue waves, with the furthest outcrop of land hidden in this mist. Seagulls I joy their catch on the wave wet beach. The season is early spring, so the Sandpipers have yet to develop their showy spotted feathers. One can imagine the briny smell.
